A global game for good! The Meridian is a tradable medallion that symbolizes world unity. Swap it with others, register the trades online, and track where it goes in the world. Get in the game today and help support some worthy causes.

One World Connects was founded to add a physical presence to social networking.   The idea was to create an icebreaker for people to meet one another in person and then create a forum for them to continue their relationship online.  At the same time, the wanted to create a socially responsible organization as well, one that supports and gives back to the communities in which we live and work.

All I can say is what a great concept… a Social Media centered game, that is played not only in person, but that gives you an opportunity or an excuse even to talk to other people interested in Social Media as well.  Another really cool feature of playing; the profits go to a different charity each month. Each Meridian cost $20 and can be engraved with up to 8 letters although if a custom engraving is chosen it can take around 3-6 weeks to arrive.  I have already ordered mine customized with my name ~AronPo

I am hoping that it arrives before Podcamp OH on June 20th, and that I ‘ll be able to find someone attending this year that is playing as well so the trading can begin.  After you have traded, the info for your meridian can be tracked online at One World Connects, and followed as it is traded across the states or even the Globe!  There are several ways to track your individual Meridian such as the amount of trades or even the distance traveled.

If you like to play games, meet new people, or want a interesting way to send a message around the world  the meridian may just be your way of getting it done.

palm-pre-photoAlright, it’s been a few days since the Palm Pre released,  Apple has already announced their new Iphone specs…  and the slew of  opinions from all over has commenced.

I have listened to numerous Iphone converts (most of them people I associate on the web with regularly) knock the Pre and turn right around and complain about their Iphone upgrade charges announced yesterday.  Personally, I don’t think the upgrade fees are worth  what your gonna get  A new user it is probably a good deal, a $99 dollar Iphone to be like everyone else, even better.   Only problem with the whole thing… your locked into a 2 year contract and the rumor is the Iphone will be available on a different network before your contract is up.

One of the the biggest Iphone complaints… AT&T … Just Saying!

So if you haven’t figured it out I went with the Palm Pre… cautiously at first mind you.  I did spend over 2 hours in the store on release day playing with it before I finally agreed to purchase it, and to be honest so far I haven’t been disappointed by anything other than my initial assessment of the phone.

I still feel that the hardware feels like a toy phone, but it is not the first phone I’ve ever had that I said that about.  The only other thing so far that really disappointed was the fact that ring tones can’t be assigned to text messaging.  Although, it is rumored to being fixed in a software upgrade.

Now to be fair the battery life doesn’t last as long as an Iphone, although unless your continuously using the Wi-Fi that really isn’t an issue, and there is that whole video thing, but really, I own a camera and a flip do I need the video on my phone to? There is also the whole applications debate, for me this is really a mute point.  The Iphone will always have more apps, but in reality I am only going to use about 10 or so on a regular basis with either phone.  The Pre comes with Tweed, a Twitter client that I fall in love with more and more everyday,  Pandora is cool, Fandango as well…  the only thing I really wish it had was a Brightkite app since I like to post my pics and such through there.  As for the rest of  the app catalog…  I don’t really care if my phone can cock like a shotgun, make farting noises, or tell me which direction north is.  Honestly, if I had the choice of the Pre or the Iphone when lost in the woods I would choose the Pre for it’s cutting ability (for those of you that have seen the cheese video) over a compass any day…

I look at it this way, I don’t have an issue with Sprint’s network where I live, any billing problems I have have been fixed quickly and efficiently, and I qualified for a lot of money off the phone…  since I was laid off for 2 weeks, anther very beneficial plus. Now by the time my new contract comes up for renewal, hopefully the Iphone will be on a new network, hopefully it will have a front facing camera, hopefully it will have a even faster processor speed and battery life…  and then maybe I’ll switch!

I do like the Iphone but in all honestly the Palm Pre does everything I need it to… and really, that is all that matters!

Image Isn’t Everything… or is it?

by AronPo on April 25, 2009

pills

Around October last year I started going to the gym, trying to eat healthier, and overall just make some positive changes in my life.  For a while everything was good, I was losing weight, I felt like I had more energy, I was even buying smaller pant sizes.

Then the Thanksgiving/Christmas Holidays hit… I was laid off for 2 weeks, back on for a couple then off again.  I ended finding excuses not to make it to the gym, or why letting my eating habits go just one day wouldn’t matter; a month and a half later I had not only gained the weight back, but I was heavier than when I originally started.  Talk about demoralizing, my self confidence was drowning, and I couldn’t even recognize it.  I just made excuses on how I would start working out tomorrow, or come up with reasons to justify myself instead of admitting there was a problem.

Then March 17th, 2009 I was kind of broadsided by two different friends I hadn’t seen for a while.  The first, Lee had been around when I started working out originally and had lost 25lbs.  He  unintentionally pointed out that I had gained it all back, to be honest he pretty much just called me fat directly to my face.  While his delivery definitely did nothing to spare my feelings it was a wake up call.    I was hurt for a minute, but I also realized this was something I had done, had been doing to myself all along.

My 2nd friend Brian I hadn’t seen for at least 3 years , probably longer, and as we sat and caught up of course we returned to old times, and growing up together.  This is when Brian kinda surprised me with his observations of our past.  You see there used to be a gang of about 10-12 of us that would always hang out at the apartment and play cards or watch movies, play video games… and no matter what we did I seemed to be the one who always ended up single.   Brian was baffled by this because with the exception of 1 or 2 others I was descent looking, I was one of the only guys with a steady job, car, and place of my own, and the kicker more than half the time I was the one who invited them over.  Some how I became their friend (the proverbial nice guy) while my friends dated them.  Brian basically told me I was too nice.

While all that may have been true, I have come to realize back then I had let my negative perceptions of myself overshadow all the positive things I had going for me.  Instead of embracing what I had and utilizing it, I let everyone around me reap the rewards instead.  Fast forward to today…

I have been back in the gym for almost a month, and while my weight isn’t dropping as fast as I’d like I can definitely see the results when I look in the mirror, but even more amazing is watching my mentality change while I am doing it.   My confidence is growing in leaps and bounds, I don’t suffer approach anxiety the same way I would before, and I am definitely pushing myself out of my comfort zone more often.  Still, I am the same person I was a month ago.  It really makes me wonder why the perception of ourselves make us so insecure?  I should say why we allow our perception of ourselves to make us feel so insecure. Everyone has different insecurities, mine is my weight, for others it can be anything from love, control, perfection, to future dreams.  There is no wrong  answer to the question just a realization that in the end we control our attitudes, our minds, and ultimately our fears and insecurities…  I am not gonna let my fears be the deciding vote for my decisions anymore.

So here’s my challenge… go out and find one thing in the next week you wouldn’t normally do, and do it anyway!

I am gonna blog about mine, hopefully you’ll leave me comments about yours, I’d love to hear them!
